recycled packaging

I'd heard of recycling the packaging that your scrapbooking supplies came in for crafts, gifts, and on your layouts before, but I didn't really "get" how'd you recycle the packaging until I saw this new little trend at a local store Paper Creations in SLC. I love gifty things and thought this was way fun.

At home I looked at what I had still in the package that would work for a similar Halloween treat. I took my big clear block for my clear stamps out and viola! I had the perfect container. All product used is Pebbles Inc. Halloween line and ribbon.

This is a very simple idea I saw at a local scrapbook store, Pebbles in my pocket. It is an easy gift idea. They originally purposed it as a Girls camp craft and now have a father's day block you can see and order here. I am making some as my "Pay it forward" blog gifts.

Basically all you need is:

1 Large paperclip or alligator clip and wire
3X5 inch block of wood sanded et painted to desired color
Modge Podge and Foam brush
Patterned paper and embellishments of choice
Sticky Dot or glue for paper clip

Cut patterned paper to fit front side, or individual squares for each side and modge podge in place. After dry decorate as desired. Glue single end of paperclip on front corner of block and place embellishment over glued area.

Top with a picture held by the paper clip.

Another way to repurpose is to turn it into a recipe card holder.

Naughty...or nice?

So for a friends bridal shower I created a Naughty or Nice? present...

At Borders I found a naughty or nice coupon book. one coupon will be nice (i.e. Good for one long walk on the beach) and another would be a "naughty" version. I created a naughty box and a nice box.

I filled the nice box with movies and popcorn, my cookbook and some cute heart shaped oven mitts, etc...activities a couple could use and do together. I filled the naughty box with some lip shaped candy, a lip shaped pack of cards, lingerie, and various other items ;)

It was a hit, and I think it is a fun idea for valentines day, bridal showers, anniversaries, etc...

Gift idea followup

I saw these supplies at Michael's and thought they made a great idea for one of those gift baskets. Total cost was $9.50 to make everything, but now I still have more paint, and ribbon for other gifts. All I need is a little "go green" bag to but everything in and a pencil. It was super easy to put together, and really is a nice little gift: 4x6 picture frame, journal, magnetic notepad, socks, and a fun "grow the perfect world" toy.

NTS: a good gift idea

Heartland Paper Company on KSL's Studio 5 (which I want to be in the audience for someday) gave some great ideas for gifts.
